Moving Into Your Home

    As the date of your moving day gets closer there will be a lot to do in readiness for the big day. Below you will find some useful check lists which you can download to help get you started! Prior to the day you move in our Customer Service Representative will contact you and make an appointment for your pre-delivery inspection. This is an important meeting and at the appointment you will inspect your home and make a note of any items requiring attention.   • 4 Weeks Before

    1. Review the plan of your new home and made a list of all the items from your existing home that you will be bringing to the new home.
    2. Make a list of the items going into each room in the new home and prepare labels for moving day.
    3. List valuable items separately, make note of serial numbers of electronic equipment, and assemble those items you are going to carry with you personally for safekeeping.
    4. if you are going to have a garage sale, or to give gently used but unwanted items to your local charity, have each family member sort out their own belongings and either affix
    a price tag for the garage sale, pack them up and deliver them to the charity. 5. Complete change of address forms for post office
    6. Complete Revenue Canada change of address form
    7. Complete change of address notifications for credit cards, subscriptions, etc.
    8. Get quotations from moving company or reserve rental truck
    9. Start to use up food items so there is less to pack.
    10. Have rugs professionally cleaned and wrapped for moving.

  • 2 Weeks Before

    1. Switch utility services to your new address. Notify Cable or satellite TV supplier of cancellation of service and make arrangements for new address.
    2. Arrange for help on moving day, especially if you have small children and pets
    3. Make copies of any important documents
    4. Contact your insurance agent and make sure you will be covered before, during and after the move for your personal belongings.
    5. Defrost freezer
    6. Take hazardous wastes, recyclables etc. to your local depots

  • Day Before

    Pack one suitcase for the family for the move:
    1. A small first aid kit with Aspirin, Band Aid, Polysporin, infant needs (diapers, wipes etc.) and any medications that are being used by family.
    2. Shampoo, conditioner, a hairbrush, soap, lotion and towels.
    3. Family pajamas and robes
    Pack one cooler for lunch and snacks:
    4. Milk, tea, coffee, paper cups, juice, cookies, sliced loaf or buns and cold cuts, cheese and fruit, granola bars etc. Make up sandwiches the night before for when the family gets hungry during the moving day.
    Pack one box with:
    5. Buy some disposable napkins, plates and cups
    6. Some simple cleaning materials (spray cleaner, dish washer detergent dustpan and broom, and rags)
    7. Make sure you have cash handy for unexpected expenses on moving day
    General
    8. Organize who is going to go with the movers, who is taking the pets and who is caring for children.
    9. Double check labels on boxes are clear and properly affixed

  • Moving Day

    1. Double check closets, drawers, shelves, basement and garage to make sure they are empty.
    2. Carry your personal valuables with you
    3. Take the first aid, cleaning, toiletries and food stuffs with you. You’ll be able to eat lunch, have a shower and order pizza for dinner
    4. Have fun.
